Don’t take from me, Argentina

Over half of global travellers admit to taking hotel room goods….other than toiletries!

Friday 29th May 2015:  Argentinian travellers are the most likely to take an item from a hotel room with almost three-quarters (73%) admitting they have taken products when travelling. The global study by, surveying almost 5,000* respondents across 28 countries, found which nationalities are most likely to take advantage of a five-finger discount.

Singaporean travellers came in second place with the stickiest fingers with 71% admitting to pinching hotel items, followed by Spain with 70% – the highest percentage in European countries surveyed.

With the UK featuring in 16th place, it seems some Brits are struggling to keep up appearances when it comes to their polite reputation, with almost half (46%) of guests saying they had pinched from a hotel room. Of the items ‘borrowed’ by British travellers, stationery tops the list with a quarter (25%) of UK respondents stating they take pens and paper the most.

Excluding toiletries, stationery is the most favoured freebie from a hotel with a fifth (20%) of global travellers choosing to take this. Slippers are the second choice (12%), followed by misplaced hotel room keys in third (10%).

We aren’t universally dishonest however, with Colombian hotel guests the most trustworthy, with only 31% confessing to pilfering from their rooms, followed by Denmark and Norway, both with a low percentage of 33%.

Yvonne Bonanati of the brand said, “It is staggering to think of just how many items must go missing in hotels every year, besides toiletries! It is clear some global travellers feel they are offered more free treats in their hotel rooms than others – and even the British are guilty for pinching a pen here and there.”
